Casco Antiguo

Inside of Real Alcázar de Sevilla, Spain

This area in Seville has everything you need for unforgettable stays in Spain. It’s here where you’ll find some of Seville’s biggest and best attractions: a spectacular gothic Cathedral, an ancient palace where Game of Thrones was filmed, and a historic watch tower on one of the most beautiful rivers in Spain.

This really is one of the best places to stay in Seville for families and couples in particular because you have a fantastic balance of things to do here. You might decide to climb to the top of La Giralda (the Cathedral’s bell tower) one afternoon or go for dinner in Hard Rock Café Sevilla the next for more familiar food and music. If you’re stuck for ideas you can always check out my guide on how to spend 3 days in Seville.

Staying in Casco Antiguo also means you’ll be slap bang in the middle of the city and won’t have to walk far if you decide to venture to other must-see destinations like La Plaza de España and Las Setas de Sevilla, the largest wooden structure in the world known as “the mushrooms” in Seville.

El Arenal

plaza de toros in Sevilla, Spain

The El Arenal neighborhood is another fantastic location for families, couples, and friends that want to be within walking distance of the main attractions during their vacations in Seville. One advantage is that you would be closer to the river which may interest you as you’ll have better access to other neighborhoods across the river like Triana.

There’s also the Arenal Food Market, El Mercado del Arenal, where you have a number of bars and restaurants to choose from when you want to try some typical Spanish tapas, paella, Rioja wine, and much more. El Torre de Oro is also very close by and so is the historic bull ring: La Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla (…and breathe).

I also recommend this area for backpackers as you can find affordable hostels in one of the most central parts of the city here. See my list of recommendations below including my favorite hostel in El Arenal for backpackers or anyone that’s happy to share a room during their stay.

La Encarnación

Las Setas and one of the best places to stay in seville

One of the most exciting neighborhoods in Seville, La Encarnación is home to the unmissable Las Setas structure which lights up the entire area at night. This up-and-coming part of Seville is one of the best places to stay in Seville for couples or friends that want to sample some of the best bars and tapas restaurants in the city.

Did you know you can climb to the top of Las Setas at night too? From the top of Las Setas you can enjoy one of the best views of Seville and many tourists prefer to go up during the day. But when the lights come on at night you can have an equally memorable visit. For me it’s one of the most underrated things to do in Seville, which I write more about in this article about the 6 hidden gems in Seville you have to know about.

If you stay in this area you’re only a few minutes from the main shopping street on Calle Rioja where you can find shops like Zara, Pull and Bear, and Mango. The vibrant Alameda de Hercules is the main hub for Seville’s nightlife and is also just a short walk away.

STAY IN LA ENCARNACIÓN 🛎️

🔸Best for Families: Hotel Casa de Indias (9.0) For vacations in Seville with kids, this impressive hotel with rooftop views of Las Setas is rated highly thanks to its location and cleanliness.

Triana

A view of calle betis in triana seville at sunset

Triana is one of the biggest neighborhoods in Seville and in many ways has an identity separate to Seville. Some of the best flamenco guitarists in the world are from Triana and the neighborhood remains one of the best places to stay in Seville if you want to listen to more music in some of the best flamenco bars in Seville.

You can get to Triana by crossing the famous Puente de Triana (Puente de Isabel II) and from there you can explore Calle Betis, a popular area on the river where locals and tourists alike frequently gather for tapas, drinks, and music. Triana is also famous for its incredible ceramics and pottery studios. If you want to spend an afternoon here, don’t leave before you’ve visited Ceramica Triana, the neighborhood’s best ceramics shop and a must-see for tourists in Seville.

And if you’re interested in visiting more places in the region, read my post on the 6 best day trips from Seville that won’t take you more than an hour by car or train to get to.

STAY IN TRIANA 🛎️

🔸Hotel with Best Reviews: Monte Triana (9.0) This exceptional hotel in the Triana neighborhood comes with a rooftop pool and also has private parking for visitors arriving by car (15€ per day).

🔸Best for Families: Triana Pages Oasis (9.4) Only a few minutes away from the Puente de Triana, this bright apartment in one of the best areas in the neighborhood is rated highly for cleanliness and comfort and sleeps six guests.

🔸Best for Couples: Magno Apartments Rocío (9.2) If you want to enjoy a romantic getaway in Seville without breaking the bank, these are some of the best value for money apartments around. Clean, welcoming staff, and lots of privacy in an excellent location.

🔸Best for Large Groups: Luxury Duplex (9.7) This apartment can sleep eight people in total and past guests agree that the space has been used magnificently to create one of the best homes in Triana for larger groups. If you’re looking for the best places to stay in Seville for friends, check out this duplex first.

Best things to do in Triana: Book stand-up paddle boards and enjoy the sunshine on the tranquil Guadalquivir River (⭐)

La Macarena

La Macarena is a neighborhood located about 40 minutes from the city center. If you’re coming to Seville on a budget and want to save money on accommodation, La Macarena might be a very good option for you. This is also one of the best places to stay in Seville if you want to practice your Spanish. The neighborhood has a strong Latino presence and there’s a mix of South American, Spanish, and African residents in the heart of La Macarena.

You can find some of the best South American restaurants in La Macarena and you’re not far from the popular Alameda de Hércules, which boasts some of the best nightlife in the city.

However, if it’s your first time in Seville you might find the distance from your accommodation to the main attractions too much. Another potential drawback is that La Macarena is not as aesthetically pleasing as some of the more central neighborhoods in Seville like Barrio Santa Cruz. I recommend staying in La Macarena for anyone traveling on a budget that doesn’t mind lots of walking to and from the main things to do in the center. Alternatively, you can hire bikes to get around quicker.

STAY IN LA MACARENA 🛎️

🔸Apartment with Best Reviews: Macarena Home (9.2) This superb and cosy apartment has all the amenities you’ll need for short or long stays in Seville and even comes with a private roof terrace. Recommended for one or two guests.

🔸Best for Families: Arco Macarena Lofts (9.1) This family sized apartment can sleep up to five guests in total and it’s perfect for younger families that also want to try some fun activities in Seville during their stay. The popular Isla Mágica (theme park) is just a short walk away as are other Seville attractions like Casa de Pilatos and Palacio de la Dueñas.

🔸Best Value for Money: ¡Precioso Apartamento! (9.4) Couples and small families will love this apartment, which features all the top amenities you could hope for and super fast free Wi-Fi. Past guests loved the traditional Andalusian patio and tranquility here, which is a pleasant surprise given the apartment’s popular location.

Best things to do in La Macarena: Book an electric bike tour and enjoy Seville’s flat terrain as you explore neighborhoods like La Macarena (⭐)

La Alameda de Hércules

As I’ve mentioned La Alameda numerous times already it seems only logical that I include it as one of the best places to stay in Seville (and it really is). However, I don’t recommend it for families (older families in particular) as the neighborhood can be a mixed bag in terms of safety and comfort. Young and older visitors would be better off looking at Casco Antiguo, El Arenal, and Triana for places to stay in Seville.

However, La Alameda is great for backpackers or young couples that want to experience the nightlife in Seville during their  stay. The square is filled from top to bottom with bars and restaurants and caters to almost every type of night out. If you want to eat here there are typical Spanish tapas places to choose from or you can try something more international like Mano de Santo, a crowd favorite for Mexican food.

Top Tip: It’s rumored that many of the cheaper bars in La Alameda sell bootleg alcohol — ask for bottled beer: “un tercio por favor” if you want to be safe.

STAY IN LA ALAMEDA 🛎️

🔸Hotel with Best Reviews: H10 Corregidor (9.1) Highly recommended for couples or smaller groups, this boutique hotel is in the heart of the action. At night you can experience the vibrant Alameda atmosphere and during the day you can use the rooftop pool, sunbathe on the terrace or explore more of the best things to see in Seville nearby.

🔸 Best Value for Money: La Suite del Conde (9.6) If you really want your money to go far, consider booking a stay in this suite for two people. This cozy suite has been rated highly across the board: staff, cleanliness, and location are top notch here and guests traveling alone really enjoyed the suite and the hospitality of the owners too.

🔸Best Hostel: The Corner House (9.3) This hostel is one of the most charming around and every room has plenty of natural light as well as individual balconies and a beautifully furnished rooftop terrace.

Best things to do in La Alameda: Sangria tasting with rooftop views — perfect for couples and friends looking for top value for money activities (⭐)

Summary

If it’s your first time in Seville I wouldn’t recommend any neighborhoods that aren’t on this list. The places I’ve listed above have been included because they’re generally very safe, centrally located, and close to the best stuff to do in Seville. You might hear about neighborhoods like Nervion and Los Remedios but these are both bad locations for tourists and not nearly as beautiful as the more popular options above.
